Washington State Spoon Collectors

The Washington State Spoon Collectors (WSSC) was formed by Ellen Hanvey in 1983 and meets on the first Saturday of the month from September through May. The goal of WSSC has been to educate spoon collectors and the community on the design, manufacture, and history of spoons.

Each year is devoted to a specific project to further raise awareness of spoon collecting. In the past, such projects have included providing a scholarship to a graduate student at the University of Washington, organizing national spoon conventions and making a sizeable donation of Washington state spoons to be exhibited at the Washington State Historical Museum.

This years’ project is planning a fantastic spooning cruise to Alaska, sailing through the Inside Passage with stops at Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, Glacier Bay and Victoria, B.C. The Norwegian Star will leave Seattle on August 15, 2004 and return August 22. 2004. The cruise is described as Freestyle Cruising with a program designed for the spoon collector to include speakers, a hospitality room for buying, selling and trading, and several other interesting and exciting surprises.
